Saath, and how the Nepali community stays in touch.

Saath is the community feed in the Chaana app, where signed-in members ask questions, warn each other about scams and share carpools and success stories, under their real name and suburb. There is no private chat: contacting someone opens your phone's own SMS app, WhatsApp or dialler with the message already written, and viewings and interviews are booked in My Appointments.

Contacting a member

Message, WhatsApp or Call
The buttons open your phone's SMS app, a WhatsApp chat or your dialler. Nothing you send passes through or is stored by Chaana.
The message is already written
For rooms, room seekers, jobs, job seekers, businesses and event organisers. For a room it reads: "Hi, I'm interested in the room at ... advertised on Chaana. Is it still available? I'd love to arrange a viewing."
Which listings offer what
Rooms: Message, Call, WhatsApp. People looking for a room or work: Message, WhatsApp, Call. Job offers: Message. Businesses: Call, Text message, WhatsApp, Email, Website, Directions. Events: Message, Call, WhatsApp, when the organiser gave a phone.
A safety note first
Before you contact someone about a room or job, a short note appears. It never blocks you: "Got it, continue" goes ahead, and "Report this listing" opens the report form.

Booking a viewing or interview

My Appointments
The poster sees everyone who contacted them, grouped by listing, and proposes a viewing or interview time. You confirm or decline it, either side can cancel, and every change sends an in-app notification.

How it works.

How to post in Saath

  1. Open Saath from the quick-access row on the app's Home screen.
  2. Tap Post, the centre button.
  3. Choose a category.
  4. Write your post, up to 2,000 characters, and add up to 3 photos.
  5. Leave out phone numbers, home addresses and bank details, then post.

How to contact someone about a listing

  1. Open the room, job or person's post.
  2. Tap Message, WhatsApp or Call.
  3. Read the safety note, then tap "Got it, continue", or report the listing if something is wrong.
  4. Your phone's SMS app, WhatsApp or dialler opens with the message already written. Send it or talk it through.

How to book a viewing or interview

  1. Contact the poster and agree a time by phone or WhatsApp.
  2. The poster opens My Appointments, My Listings, taps Schedule and proposes a date and time.
  3. You see it under For Me as "Awaiting you" and tap Confirm or Decline.
  4. Both of you see the same status. Either side can cancel.

How you are protected.

The safety rules and limits, stated plainly.

  • Saath is for signed-in members only, to read and to post. It is not on the public website.

  • Every post shows your name and suburb. The app reminds you not to share phone numbers, home addresses or bank details in a post.

  • Every post and comment, except your own, can be reported with a reason. Three safety reports, or five reports of any kind, hide it until the Chaana team reviews it.

  • The contact safety note says "Take extra care", with the reasons, when an account is under 7 days old, a listing asks for money upfront, the rent is under $100 a week, or the pay is under $20 an hour.

  • Phone numbers are never printed on listings, and they are masked on the Appointments screen. When you text or call someone, they see your number, because it comes from your own phone.

  • Chaana cannot see or control conversations that move to SMS, WhatsApp or phone, so keep money and documents out of them until you have met in person.

Questions people ask.

Can I chat with someone inside the Chaana app?

No. Chaana has no in-app messaging. Tapping Message, WhatsApp or Call opens your phone's SMS app, WhatsApp or dialler with a polite message already written; for public discussion, use Saath.

What is Saath?

Saath is the Chaana community feed. Members post questions, carpools, success stories and scam warnings in 13 categories, with up to 3 photos, and reply in threads.

Can I post anonymously in Saath?

No. Every post and comment shows your name and suburb.

Who can see Saath posts?

Only signed-in Chaana members. Saath is not on the public website.

How do I warn the community about a scam?

Post in Saath under Scam Alert or one of the named scam categories, such as Room Scam or Pay-for-Job Scam. The Chaana team can pin important warnings so they show on the app's Home screen.

How do I arrange a room viewing or job interview?

Contact the poster by phone or WhatsApp and agree a time. The poster adds it in My Appointments, and you confirm it there.

Does the person I contact see my phone number?

Yes, when you text, WhatsApp or call them, because it comes from your own phone. Numbers are never printed on listings, and they are masked on the Appointments screen.

Will I be told when someone replies in Saath?

Yes, in the app. You get a notification for new comments on your post, replies to your comments, and likes or loves on your comments; Chaana does not send push notifications to your lock screen yet.
